Just picked up a 1985 4runner

Just picked up a 1985 4runner

Condition is great. I notice some grease/oil leakage up front at both ends of the front axle. Any ideas?

Rebuild the axle.... new seals / etc. You can buy the rebuild kits from marlin crawler or trail-gear.

Also, the diff breather may be clogged up.

Axle oil seals are shot.
You need a knuckle service kit.

thanks

guys, it's been awhile since i've driven this model 4runner. when i gas it, it sounds great, but boy, is it sluggish. i feel it isn't going as fast as i want? yours run like this??

testing the 4x4

other than engaging the 4 hi/lo, what's a good way of gauging the 4 wheel drive? i plan to cruise over to the beach soon and hit some sand. before i do .... need to make sure i can get out!

My 22r feels like pig but then, I would say 98% of cars I drive are like this...

Which means I need to get my own race car

I also got a 85 runner about 6 mo. ago and I accidintely knocked it into 4low and began to move and noticed , ! So I knew it engaged at least . and like 2 weeks ago finally went for it and bombed some dunes , NO PROB.

85 4runner sr5 loaded,
33x12x50, new 2'' body lift as of today! yeehaw!
shackle on back leaf to level out
moog tie rod ends
