motor swap from 95 4 runner to 87 4 runner

A recent turn of events left my 95 4 runner upside down in a ditch on the side of the road (I avoided hitting the person driving the wrong way on my side of the road head on.) I have access to another 4 runner an 87, wondering if the engine (both 3.0) can be changed FROM the 95 INTO the 87, both have the automatic tranny. Any suggestions, thanks in advance for any help provided.

Yes, the 87 has the V-6 (may even be a newer model year, it has the 4 doors, and I think that was 88 and later. The person who has it thought it was an 87, just going by that. Thanks

3.0 V6 88-95 4Runner

Probably easiest to swap everything over including ECM as plugs and such surely changed 88 to 95.

Tell them it can't be an 87 too.

Already planned on telling them about the year, I suspect that I can verify that off the vin #. Plugs were my main concern, I might get lucky if they are both second generation. 89 - 95. I could use some luck after rolling that on last Friday night. THanks again

I'm interested in these trucks and did some googling. You wont need to check the vin, I think you can check the chassis code stamped on the frame behind the right front wheel: RN= 22re, VZN=3vze / v6

wikipedia says 1987-1997 - 3.0 L (2958 cc) 3VZ

x2 on what the Wabbit said. The first year for the 3.0 was 1988 in the 4Runner.

The early 3.0 was 11/87 to 8/88 with a totaly different motor mount, I know I am trying to find the early mount for my motor! But the later motor will bolt right in using it's mounts, If you do have an '87 or early 88 want to get rid of those mounts?

4 doors would make it at least a '90.

ToyDIY.com backs this date up as well, but wouldn't 11/87 be considered the 88 model year? This is November 2011 (11/11) and the 2012 trucks...if they are not on the dealers lots now they will be at very soon.

still doesn't fix the 4door issue. Which makes it at least 91

Actually,I believe it makes it a 90. You could get a 90 in either 2 or a 4 door model.

My guess is 91 or 92. Manf. I.D. Plate has it as 07 / 91. Yes I did discuss the year with the owner. He was going to look for the title to see what it says. Either way, I'm pretty sure that the engine and "brain" from the 95 will swap without a lot of issues.
