Switching Electric to roll up windows?

Switching Electric to roll up windows?
Allright i tried searching about 10 times for this same situation.
Ive got an 87 4runner sr5. Yep... all the electronics are starting to go and im tired of it. I like roll up windows better anyways.
A. Does the door panel have the same bolt pattern so that I CAN put the roll up in and eliminate the electric motor? I assume so but im not sure.
B. Is it cheaper/easier to go that route or to just get a new motor from the toyota pick yard and swap it in.
Diagnosis: ripped the panel off. Used electric light test. only one of the pins is lighting up going to the swith out of the 5. I am not sure about what that means cause ive never dealt with electric window wiring before. I build and install concert PA systems, and this has just been a project I took on.
THANKS for all and any help my fellow yotans

I have an '88 with a butchered wiring harness. I have an '87 P/u with manual windows. So I know exactly what you are thinking!!
I have not done anything yet, but I do not see why it would not work. Just be careful to pull all the electric connectors so the door has greater resale value. it sucks when having to deal with a chopped harness and pigtailing connectors.
My sincerest suggestion is to pull the manual door first, and do any repairs. Then carefully pull the door with power windows and make the swap. I cannot see it not being a clean affair with two people lifting so you can bolt it in clean.

Hey skypilot. Thanks for your reply.
I actually dont have another vehicle with manual windows. I just have the 1 truck with the electric windows. If you try it or know anyone that has tried it please let me know. Thanks

are you planning to swap in used doors or pull the guts to put into your existing doors?
doors will swap from any truck 84-88 and probably be the easiest, if you can find some worth putting in. maybe someone who's gone to tube doors will sell you theirs, check the classifieds here.
otherwise, check car-part.com for used doors complete.
the manual regulators will bolt in to your existing door frame. but you may not be able to turn the window crank 360*, depending on if you have the super deluxe door panels with long armrest, or the slightly less fancy ones with door handle/arm rests.
do a google image search for "4runner door panel" to see what i mean quickly.

Check your switches, I had to pull mine apart and bend the little contacts a little bit to get them to work again. I want to switch mine over to manual too eventually, but it is sure nice not having to reach over and roll down the passenger window.

oh yeah, forgot to mention a little trick which may help.
i've used jewelry cleaner, like the kind you see on tv where someone dunks a spoon into it, and it comes out super shiny, to clean window switches. i used to bring audi/vw switches back from the dead all the time, but it depends on the internals of the switch, and if corrosion build up is what's keeping it from working.
pop it apart, soak it, brush with a toothbrush, blast with air. could save you a lot of trouble, or at least give you time to find your manual door parts.

You can swap the power regulators for manual ones with no problems. I did it on my 86 4runner. The manual regulators bolt right in.
The hardest part is finding door panels for the swap. There are different door panels for vent window and non vent window doors.
Good luck
