Researching 7MGTE swap, would appreciate feedback

I've come to the conclusion it seems to be the correct swap for me as my 22re is tired and slow. The only thing I don't like about it is utilizing the W56 transmission or custom making a bellhousing to fit a R150f. I could potentially grenade the W56 while offroad somewhere and get stranded or end up replacing transmissions twice a year.

So after a few weeks of solid reading on supracharged, pirate, marlin...etc. I think I found the solution and would appreciate some feedback.

I would use the W58 bellhousing and mate it to a R150f transmission using this adapter:

http://www.advanceadapters.com/produ...ter-plate-kit/

And then use the marlincrawler adapter kit to mate my existing gear driven transfer cases to the R150f. Can anyone see any issues with doing this?

Thanks for looking.

w56 will handle 400hp. my bud has a g52 behind his 7mge no problem.

I hope your CHAIN in your v6 tcase doesn't break offroad somewhere and leave you stranded

I read mixed things about the W56's ability to hold up beyond 200+ hp. I might give it a try but I figured if the engine was out, why not just replace the entire drivetrain. I would not run a v6 tcase, I would use the marlin adapter kit to mate my existing gear driven tcases to the r150f.

22re's Hp rating was 112 max the 7M's were 204 max, you would be going up 92 Hp at the most..do you really need a "R" series transmission? Afterall W56's are pretty plentiful, You could probably buy several for $422 that the adapter will cost you and you don't need a Marlin adapter to bolt up the gear transfer case. That would be more money saved.

The 7mgte puts out 232 HP but I guess I'll probably end up running the W56 until it goes, they do seem to be plentiful. I'll have to do my best to baby it.

If you don't shock load the transmission and rear end, it will last a whole lot longer.

Im not too worried about the rear end as its a Ford 9" so I think the only point of failure at this point is the tranny.

Same logic applies to transmission, impact forces break things. So if you don't go around dropping the clutch at high RPMS then I don't see any problem with a W56 failing any faster than normal.

I would guess the poster is in the habit of breaking things!! I doubt the r150 series would last that much longer .

After you build the rear, trans, u-joints then you just start twisting driveshafts

you'll be fine with a w56. Thats what I'm running behind my 7mgte for the past 2 years. Just don't drop the clutch at 5k rpm when the light turns green and you'll be fine. I had my truck on a dyno and it put 218hp/230tq to the wheels at 5300rpm in 4th gear with 5.29 and 35s. Theres another 1k usable rpm after that too. That was with the check engine light on, a poorly placed intercooler (right above turbo) and no tuning. Since then I've added a few performance parts, and tuned it as best as I can. I'm not doubting 250 at the wheels now. The only driveline issue I have is that I have to grease my u-joints bi-weekly.

The 7M is a turd, buy a 2jz-ge and you can still get a factory bellhousing to mount it to a W series transmission. A 2jz-ge won't cost you any more than a 7M and you'll have a much sturdier and far less fragile motor. I've owned Supras for 10 years, I can speak with confidence that JZ motors are the way to go if you require durability.
