I got an 86 4runner that pops out of 5th gear when decelerating or when I'm going down on a hill. It won't pop out when driving on level areas or accelerating. My engine mount and transmission seem to be ok.
The tranny has just been rebuild two years ago. Can someone help if anyone out there is familiar with my problem. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I had one didn`t make it near as long most likely same transmission

The bearing starts to wear just enough to allow things to loosen up once the load is off the transmission.

You can pull it now and rebuild or run it till it quits and hope it is not in a bad place traffic wise.

 

I appreciate the info. Really disappointed to think that I might have to just get a new tranny. I probably won't go through the rebuild again. Thanks again for your help.

 

Double check your tranny fluid level, low fluid can cause a similar behavior, though the damage may be done.

 

hello, did you change the shifter seat and the shifter end cap, not sure if that would cause the prob your having , but its a start if they have never been changed before , I got my parts at toyota they had them in stock , I cant remember the price I think under $20 for both..
