buying an 82 yota questions

I am thinking about buying an 82 yota that i saw in the paper. this lady wants $300 and claims engine and tranny are good but body is beat up. i plan on turning it into a wheeler so the body doesn't matter. haven't found out the mileage yet just know she used it on a farm and hasn't drivin it much lately just started it up. what are some things i should look out for in buying this? i plan on putting some money into it but what should i look for so i don't get stuck putting too much money into it. i just wanna get it rtunning good before i lift it and go for locker and everything. how can i tell if the tranny and such are in decent shape? and if i ended up needing a new motor how much would one run?

For an '82, if it runs and she's asking only $300 I'd say to buy it. Hell, even if it didn't run, a $300 truck would be a decent beginning for a wheeler.

If its runs good and sounds good $300 is a hell of deal for a Yota. You could thrash it and still not have lost much.

$300 isn't a bad deal at all.

If you go look at it, look at the frame. If it is rusted out (like mine) then it may be more trouble than it's worth.

I want a $300 truck! Geez, if you think about it, a good stereo, an exhaust system, and other "goodies" for a truck cost almost that... but a whole truck???

Definately call her up and find out the details, don't let some one else claim it before you.

check frame and floorboards. but ya, for $300, you could part out the front axle and scrap the rest of the truck and come out even at least.
