Hey Guys,

So I just got done retrofitting A/C into my 87 4runner from parts off of an 88 4runner. After installing all the parts, it held a vacuum and was filled with R-12. The air just was not getting cold enough. The coldest it got was around 53 degrees.

So I drove it to work that day and running the ac but it just wasn't getting cold enough. I suspected the expansion valve was stuck closed. On my way home, my high pressure line out of the compressor busted. So I replaced hose and the expansion valve.

Here is my issue. The TXV that I bought had an adapter to make it fit because the fittings are larger on the new TXV. I replaced the O rings where I saw they went but in the adapter there was a bevelled nozzel piece that seated into the adapter. I saw no place for the O ring to go. After putting it all back together, now it won't hold a vacuum.

Has anyone had any problems with the replacement TXV adapter? I may be overlooking where to place the O ring.

The new TXV part number is Factory Air 38616
The Factory TXV part number is a Denso 047500-0640

Sounds like it may have been over-charged. That would explain both the high low-side temperature, and the busted hose.

 

there should always be an o'ring... if you can't put one in, then there's your problem

get rid of that aftermarket junk and get the denso part

 

I contacted a local ac shop about the flare type adapter fitting and they said as long as they are good and tight they work fine. I am going to replace the o rings at the firewall connections and on the hose I replaced for good measure and see if that fixes it. If not I will be hunting down a Denso TXV
