Need some assistance picking a lift kit/setup
So this is what I've got.
84 4runner
22r/20r
will have front and rear tube bumpers
have 33x12.5 tires (will install once I find which gears I want)
Will have bushwacker fender flares soon to accommodate the added tire width
Mostly stock at this time, I have just been working to fix everything on it and get it 100% mechanically sound before moving on to the good stuff. I have pretty much reached that point now and just picked up the tires a couple days back. Now is the time to pick a lift kit/setup.
I'm looking for something that will allow good articulation, won't dwarf my 33's (ha ha), and I will probably be putting a new engine in this thing in the years to come (not anytime real soon though). It will be a v8, so if possible to have something that can accommodate heavier springs in the future w/o changing much then great, if I have to redo all in the front then so be it. Just trying to look ahead a little.
I have touched on this subject a little in a different thread that had to do with tires, and a few things had come up.
There is the budget kit here:

Anyone have experience or input on this for my application?
I hear OME has a good setup as well, however I'm not sure on which setup would be best for what I want to do. Any input?
There is also the setup that TG, Wabfab, MC and Allpro have. If I remember correctly they seem to be pretty similar.
Any help would be great.

Are 3" springs needed for high steer?
Socal, do you have the entire OME lift kit? I noticed you have the 3" springs and 5" shackles. Do you have more info on what else you ordered up from OME?

The springs i have on my truck are OME 4runner springs. I bought the springs and bushings from ome thats all. 5" Shackles are from TG(shortest ones they sell which are still 1 1/2'' over stock. This is the minimum amount of lift you need to clear hi-steer i believe. I love this setup.

I would think that the 4runner would need to be a little more supported in the back. What are people's thoughts on the creeper joint shackle mount for a little better flex? I think I'm going to be going with a similar setup as to what you have socal, just seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Modest lift with 33's with the ability to install high steer.
What is it about the OME setup that everyone likes? Is it the shocks, leafs or just the entire thing? Seem to hear a lot about them online.
Where'd you purchase your OME springs and bushings?

Right on.... I'm going to start putting together the parts list before ordering everything. did you go with the standard shackle mounts or the creeper joints? Seems like the creeper joints would be the way to go, but I'm new to all this and am just learning about suspension.

Creeper joints require welding on new mounts for rear shackle mount.
I did the OME stuff on Barney. For the price and ride, I won't ever do it again. Classic lift is so much better and not much difference in price, but I can weld too.

Hmm... Not seeing the springs you were talking about:

I didn't like the OME ride compared to the longer springs in the lift kits like I sell. OME was stiff and harsh, even after break in time. They are pretty much bolt on so that's a plus for a lot of people but by the time you buy OME, shackles, shocks, high steer steering kit, IFS box, you are at the price of a front and rear lift kit. If you can weld for yourself you should consider it. With a regear just go 5.29s and get some 35s and sell your 33s. Just food for thought.

I just got those 33's a couple days back. hmmm.... you present a valid point. Damn. ha ha.
Are the different spring sizes interchangeable once the shackle mounts for the 3" are mounted? Just wondering if I could simply swap out springs in the future if I need to.

Wabbit is very good at what he does, his barney build was the inpiration for my truck. About the rough ride...i find it hard to believe. My truck rides better than a cadillac...i couldnt have imagined a smoother ride from OME leafs IMO. From a 1/2 mph to as fast as you want its been phenominal for me. My truck is my DD also.
