Exclamation Mystery Leak 3VZE Questions

The leak is just one problem I intend to fix during this rebiuld. A long time ago when it was still running i had a mechanic take a guess and he thought it was the vavles going out.....

Can anyone tell me where an oil leak would occur if your "valves were going out"?

upon my own inspection I surmised that the majority of the old oil residue was on the oil pump and most abundant near this futile mystery hole (here is an old thread and unsolved mystery behind this as well)

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...istery-217643/

If that isnt the cause of this oil leak (that was more prevailent during hot weather and was a pint a week problem last summer), then i dont know what it is the front seal didnt seem terrible.

Any advice appreciated!

Got any pictures of the leak/where it's coming from on your truck?
There are a number of places the oil can leak from if by your "valves going out" the guy meant that your valve cover gaskets were leaking. It's a common problem on these engines. I think mine are leaking a little. I have to get to the mechanic and see if that's the problem. It's not that expensive of a fix, especially if you can do it yourself.

when you go out in the morning to start it do u get a little white smoke? if so then the valve steam seals are leaking, if u look oh the front and see oil leaking then it could be front seal, if u see oil up top by spark plugs then its valve cover gaskets. and if u have it coming down the back of the motor it could be rear main seal or valve cover gaskets.

I havent started it in a long time, its still in pieces lol. I dont think there was any upper oil leak evidence it was most definitely out the front somewhere though.
I just want o make sure I take care of everthing when reassembling. But i dont recall any white smoke. I remember it having an inconsistent acceleration though, like acceleration kicking on and off in the higher gears.

And I wonder if that hole in the oil pump serves a purpose I want to put a bolt in the hole, I dont want an open hole to the block... but I dont want to disrupt any kind of function this anomoly may employ

If you're having leaking around the oil pump, the front main seal is probably going.

I am of course going to replace the front main seal, but I still question the source of the leak considering the condition of the removed seal:

(the second pic is the old seal on a new crank)

Seems to be in pretty fantastic condition despite its age
