Yet another Rear window problem... but this one's different! Kinda

My rear window like the rest is a little sluggish and sometimes needs a little helping hand to get it up, that's not my beef! Just recently my console switch stopped lowering the window.

I can use the key on the door, both work fine. But inside the switch will only raise the window, but doesn't even make a click for lowering.

Should I just try replacing the switch? Is there another possible part that it could have been, or is the switch the obvious answer?

Cheers Guys,
Graham

so I take it you are talking about an 88 4Runner rear tailgate window?
Sorry for some reason my crystal ball stops working at 48° 59′ 51″ north latitude on average(update your sig to include your truck type)

remove console, check connections, clean connections, try switch again...no workie, replace the switch

Hello guys.. I had the same problems as you. On the slow raising. You will need to lubricate your window tracks with some Silicon Lubricant. It comes in a orange can. May have to work it in the felt/rubber. Big difference

Your switch is probably filled with coffee, soda, dust,... Just take it apart and use contact cleaner. You will be suprised at the gunk that is in there. There will probably be that green corroion on the contacts.

Once you get the switch out of the console take the light bulb out of the switch. It is a grey piece in your switch. You have to take it out to get the switch apart.

BC.. I have listed on my first post to were other common problems with the first gen runners are at.
BlueSteel.. The silicon will should fix your slow window. I had a 91 runner and dont remember the switches in it. Alot of thing I list might work for you too.

On my thread below on post #185-#186 is several links and steps of how I got mine fixed.

Terry! Awesome thread.

I've checked out the switch and looks pretty bad, I also mangled it a bit trying to get it out, so I'm just going to replace the whole switch. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks.

Thanks BC4runner88..I think I have experienced just about every problem out there. I am trying to make it easy for people to find some of the problems I have come acrossed and fixed. Good luck on your window.
