installed wrong part no. timing belt (pics)

I bought a 94 4runner for $1000 that would not run. Turns out the timing was off several teeth. The cams were both in time with each other but off about 4 teeth from where they should have been. I dont know if it jumped or was installed incorrectly. Anyway, I bought a new hydraulic tensioner for it. The Toyota brand belt and Aisin water pump looked almost brand new, so I was just going to get it all in time and reinstall the belt and call it good. The belt WILL NOT fit back on without major prying and stretching. I looked up the part number, and it shows the belt to be for a 92 model. Can someone verify that the belt are actually different in length? What other parts should I be worried about? Idlers? Water pump? Don't know how they ever get it on in the first place without prying it.

Could you post the part number? That would probably help a lot...

I doubt there's a difference in timing belts between 92 and 94, though. From what I recall, there is only one timing belt for the 3VZE regardless of the year.

Thanks, I have a printed copy already from that link. I fail to see what I am doing wrong, other than trying to install a belt that's too small.

SWEET! Thanks a bunch. NAPA has one in stock! Should I be worried about the bearings on the water pump or idlers? I mean it did go on there and probably was close to correct tension once on there, right?

You DID loosen the bolts holding the hydraulic idler in place, right? or have the pin in place?

How's the fan bracket look, I mean turn?
Mine finally came to screeching halt a month ago.

I removed the whole bracket that had the hydraulic tensioner on it. The #1 idler bearing fully swivels to the relaxed position, but still way too tight.

Oh, good call, I have no idea since I've never heard this rig run. Is this something I can change out once I have it all back together with minimal effort?

Lay the fan bracket flat face down & pout a little motor oil into the bearing crack. It will soak in over a few hours, GREATLY increasing the life of it. You don't want to have to pay what the dealer wants for one~ 8-O

If it turns freely by hand, it's good.
Chances are it's not the original fan bracket.

Exactly. No problem with too much; just wipe off the excess when you put it back together. I did mine over a few days & just kept putting more as it soaked in.
