22r wont run right need help

i have an 86 pick up with a 22r i cant get the bastard to run when it gets hot it will run normal when its cold but after it heats up a bit it acts like its missing real bad and back firing i changed the egr valve and the whole ignition system im running out of ideas the only thing i can think of is i put a motor in it and was running nice but idling high from a vacuum leak so i fixed that and the distributor was out 180 with the plug wires switched around so it would run it stared the cutting out and backfiring after i fixed that so ????? any help is appreciated thanks

double check the timing chain, just to be sure, if it ran better with dist 180 off and wires switched it probabally is not not going to match up 100 percent.

It's pretty easy to get the distributor off a tooth (or 180). Take a look at our video for a simple procedure the get the distributor in the right spot.

It should at least get your distributor in the ball park so you can finish setting the timing properly with a timing light.

Let us know how it goes.

X3 on ignition timing. Are you able to time it correctly? If not, start there. If you are still unable to get the timing after trying to adjust the distributor pull the valve cover and make sure the cam gear is where it is supposed to be.
