Hi all....Well we started the replaced of the timing chain in my dads 89 Toyota 2wd 22r, which started just as easily as the 3 other 22r's Ive already done until we got to the crank bolt.

We've tried a breaker bar, a huge cheater bar on a 1/2" ratchet (we destroyed a Snap-on and a Craftsman ratchet trying this), we ran our air gun at 90psi with no luck, tried the cheater bar on the frame and bump the starter trick multiple times, and even had our friend bring his work truck running 165 psi to his best gun and still havent got it to budge, the only thing we've managed to do were break 3 of his inpact sockets.


We even used an air chisel to make a notch in it to try to spin it off. I am at a loss and my dad needs his truck back on the road as soon as possible... If anyone has any ideas or tricks that had helped them in the past please feel free to leave any input it is greatly appreciated.

I've read that some made a cut in the round ring of the bolt and were able to relieve the pressure and then Just replace the bolt

 

Apply pressure with the breaker bar then hit it with a hammer while its under pressure, or hit it with the hammer and try the impact hitting every couple trys. hope this helps

 

have u tried penetrating lubricant?

 

Heat? Put a propane torch on it?

 

Thanks for the replies, Yes we have soaked it a few times and let it sit a while before trying again, and yes to the heat also we have been using a propane torch(If someone had just put thread lock on the threads I figured the heat woulda done the trick, but we had no luck with that either ) We havent tried cutting the edge around it to release the pressure, it makes sense so I think I'll try that next. We got it off! We hit it with the torch one more time, (We pounded a reverse easy-out onto it due to it being so rounded off at this point), held the chain-wrench around the pulley at gave it the best we could with the cheater bar and off it came! Thanks for the help, now were back on track
