Oil pressure; need your help?

I have a new 22r, there is not an oil pressure gauge, only the dummy light. I really don't want to rely on the light.

How can I rig up a gauge that shows the pressure, I have an oil sending unit on the block. Can I take that lead and wire it into a new gauge that shows me the pressure?

I would appreciate your help, thanks.

Your sending unit is for a light. You will need a sending unit and a gauge.

or look into the sr5 gauge cluster swap. Not as accurate though as a real oil pressure gauge, but much better then just the idiot light.

Get a mechanical gauge from advance auto. Much more accurate, and easier to trust

Just a word of caution if your going the mechanical gauge route, you will need to buy special adapter fitting's to be able to tap into your block. I'm going through that right now.

So to make this work I'm about to order the following according to Jason:

One Tee fitting to retain my stock gauge

One adapter to be able to plug it all into my block

Is this correct?


If i get these parts, will it work?

and, what gauge would be the best? Low pressure?

From what i read i believe it will work but I'm waiting on member Jason to confirm. I'm pretty certain about the autometer adapter but i don't really know about the Tee fitting. If your not worried about keeping the stock gauge (which in your case you not) then the autometer adapter is all you need. Also this is for a 3VZE block and not a 22r. It should be the same size but i would double check that just to be sure.

It says that there is 2 1/8" NPT connections on that fitting, if that is the case, you will have to plug one. Or you can do this:

I used an adapter in the tee that was 1/8 male x 1/8 compression (that is the brass part that is standing up in the third pic).

I put the adapter into the block, then the tee into the adapter, then the stock sender into the tee as well as the copper tubing kit for the mechanical gage. I have heard that the copper will harden and crack over time...guess I'll find out...

Jason, your adapter went into the block first, then the T? And I guess I better make sure its the same on the 22r/e as well.

I had to re-read this thread a few times to understand it; I ordered 2 of those adapters from Summit this morning, I'll use the second adapter for the coolant temp gauge since I think I'm having the same problem with it. Next I'll get a basic street T and hook it all up. Now,

What would be a good gauge to get, it seems some of these gauges pressure goes up to 100 when I think the the 22r/e runs less? any tips? oh, and thanks for all the good info jason, elbako, and swampfox. Your all right!
