What is this and how do I connect it?

When I did my tune up this morning my friend and I discovered this. The wire has 2 prongs that were just out in the open. It seems like at one time it had a plastic clip around it to connect to the other wire. It comes off of the EGR valve, and connects to... I don't know.
My question is, what is it and what does it do? The truck runs and drives perfectly fine without it connected (I assume it hasn't been connected in a long time). My other question is, I can put the prongs into the holes on the female end, but I don't know which one goes in which. Does it make a difference? Should I just leave it be and forget about it? My friend thought it might be some kind of exhaust flow sensor or something.

The two prongs that used to enclosed in a plastic clip thingy:

The female end. Which prong goes in which hole, or does it matter?

Hmm. It looks the same to me. That doesn't explain the 2 prongs that fit into it perfectly though. Do you have those too? They come off the tube into the EGR valve.

I have no idea what it is. I did notice that the OP has a 3.0 and the 22re is not really an applicable comparison.

I suggest tracking to see where the wire harness goes from the end of the Weather-pac connector and check with the FSM

The female end goes into a wire loom right underneath the power steering pump. The end missing the plastic snap clip comes from right behind the EGR valve. It must not be important because the truck is running great. It'll just annoy me now that I dint know what it is. We looked in the repair manual, but it want much help. I left the book at his place so I can't look now. I'll have to look at my FSM when I get home.

No problem Mate. I just noticed from looking at the pictures and thought I should point it out. I was not trying to stick it to you man. LOL

I will tell you this much Tardman91, If you do not have smog in your area. I would not do a thing with it. It definitely does something with the EGR, which hinders performance anyway.

Yeah, forgot to mention its a 3.0. We don't have smog here in Florida so I guess I'll just leave it be. Truck runs great the way it is, and who knows how long it's been the way it is. I'd still like to figure out what it is though. Anyone?

Edit: I checked the FSM section about the EGR and it wasn't very helpful. The illustrations in there are HORRIBLE.

found out what it is. it is the connection to your exhaust gas temp. sensor.

As for the picture of the 22re, that connector is for the A/C vacuum switch. I am guessing 92toy does not have A/C?

Thanks. Now that we know what it is, does anybody know what the effects (if any) are of leaving it disconnected? I can't really connect it any way since I don't know which prong goes where. I suppose it would probably close some valve or something and hinder performance anyhow.

From what I remember about EGR... it won't matter which way you plug it in since the sensor only changes resistance and the computer is only seeing a voltage signal with super low amperage. With it plugged in the comp can more effectively control the opening of the EGR valve to meet the 50 state emissions requirements based on temperature. 49 state emissions engines don't even have that sensor.

Thanks for the info. I won't even bother with it then. The truck seems to run perfectly fine without it. I figured with my luck I would connect it and probably wind up with a CEL or something.

very interesting that I found this thread because I have the hole on my EGR valve for that setup to fit into and mine is just....not there. I don't even have the wires you are describing and my Yota is running great.

Without it plugged in, you SHOULD be getting a CEL indicator....

Well... apparently not. Mines not on, and I know the light works.
