305 swap into 85 toy

I was wondering if you guys can help me out with water pump issue. I want to use the stock Toyota radiator but the 305 water pump sticks out way to far. I was told that I could use a water pump from a 62-67 corvette motor due to it's shorter shaft but when then I have to figure out a way to mount the alternator and power steering brackets somewhere else cause there isn't any mountingnhole on the those water pumps. I'm using a electric fan also to help me with clearance also, but was wondering if someone could help me out here. Running out of ideas and really don't want to mount the radiator in the back of the truck.

Thanks

I don't think running the toyota radiator with a SBC engine is a good idea.

So what do you suggest? Do they sell a special slimmer radiator for this swap? Or am I gonna have to mount it in the back?

that I can't answer. Troll through the engine swap section and see what everyone else is doing. IIRC the 305 and 350 "should" be the same length. If not then the 305 "should" be shorter. But I could be wrong.

I am pretty sure they are the same length. I know with my 350, getting a short style water pump was an option but then I would have to get different mounting brackets for the alternator and p.s pump. I got my radiator from summit racing and did a little trimming and mounted a piece of angle iron to hold the radiator. I'm using the original water pump, staight after market 1" deep fan, and a radiator from a 1/2 ton. dodge p/u truck. out of the local junk yard, that combination fits almost perfect, I'm even using the dodge water hoses. But every project is different. depends on your lift, and how far you pushed the engine against the fire wall. remember to use a good hammer. hope this help. ps: still have 1-1/2" fan/rad.space

with chevy v8 engines you can get long or short water pumps, you may have the long water pump on your engine, there is also electric water pumps you can buy for these engines that are fairly compact and brackets should still work, although the electric water pumps are pricey. look up summit racing and they should have a listing of several different water pumps...
