So are you carb or injected? If carb it is very simple. Also are you using an HEI dizzy?

Okay so I left stock harness in place but I also used stock toy alt and toy powersteering pump just modded the brackets a little bit. As far as the HEI goes I think I ran a new wire to the hot via ignition switch I will look and verify that for you. Simply because its been 2 years and I dont remember lol. I did remove all the fuel injection mumbo jumbo because its not need. but leave the wiper connections etc.

ok Thanks, I am using the gm alternator and power steering. i just dont know about the alternator because on the stock harness it has 3 wires going into the plug and then another wire that bolts to the alternator... right? what about your starter relay? i read that it wont pull enough current to start a gm starter

If your set on using the gm alt. get a 1 wire hook up. as far as the starter goes I bolted main hot from battery to starter then ran a new wire from the ignition switch to the start switch terminal on the starter bypassing toyota harness all together. The 3 wires in the toyota alt harness is the reason I used the toy alt. Plus I have power everything in the runner and wanted the amps.

Just depends on which GM alt you go with there is a wide range of amperage. As far as what wire to use from ignition switch you will need to use a volt meter to determin that...

Thanks for all the help. I was able to wire the starter, distributor, and oil pressure sending unit. Now all I need to do wire the alternator. Hopefully it will be running in a couple weeks! Also are you running a different brake booster and master cylinder? Oh and I used the original toyota starter wire from the ignition and it works just fine.

Are you rebuilding your old motor or did you get a whole new motor? Sounds like its gonna have some good power. I dont know a whole lot about motors or what type of cam to use but someday would like to add more power to mine.
