softopper color

I am going to pull the trigger on a softopper for my black 88 SR5 4runner. Black is the safe color but was thinking tan might be cool looking.

I welcome your thoughts.

Anybody know of a way to get a discount from Softopper.

Black, in my opinion. Look at Jeeps with old tan tops . They fade badly. But I realize a lot of you guys like things the color of dirt. I keep looking at the Softopper on Ebay. Did you see the used Kayline that went today for about $350? I PM'd the seller and it's missing all the side rails, contrary to what the listing says. Easy fix but for the price, used, it should all be there. We'd all like to see pictures when you get it.

Great suggestion on looking at the jeeps. I have now ruled out the tan. Black it will be.

Ordering today. I emailed Softopper asking about any discounts or sales and Bob offered me free shipping. Never hurts to ask.

Good to know. I am sooo close to getting one. But other expenses continually pop up.

I bought one about a month ago and its the best creature comfort mod I have added. In fact, I sold my hard top within a week - no need. Its one of the few things that functions as easily as the demo videos show. The top rolls up in about 2 minutes and retracts like a boat top in less than 5 minutes. No noise on the highway either.

One issue that may not be avoidable is that in the rolled up position, the soft window rubs on the mating window surface and will dull the clarity of the surfaces that are touching each other. Its rare that the sides are down on my rig since 80% of the time its rolled up or retracted fully, so I'll live with it

I spent the extra $$$ for the dark smoked windows and have no regrets.

Nice work on the free shipping. I shoulda asked...

I was going to suggest the tan but that Jeep comment sealed my lips. Black is a good choice. I wanted a soft top a while back and never pulled the trigger since I couldn't figure out a way to mount my roof rack on one and not have it collapse..... sure would be cool to have one though.

I am keeping my eyes open for a small rack like this on the local craigslist...

Not my rig. Its a member named granville-4crawler. He said it was the rack system from his Subaru if I remember correctly. Very cool.

Yeah Granville has an amazing rig. I'd thought to go that route but my roof rack covers almost the entire hard top. Have a spare tire, shovel, axe, high lift jack, 5 gallon fuel can, 5 gallon water can and sometimes a 130qt ice chest up there. Just isn't possible with a smaller rack like he has.
