Corrosion on 3VZ-E Block

Hi.
In process of inspecting a donor 3VZE, I pulled off the pulley brkt, and I find this corrosion. Reminds me of reefs I've dived.

Anyone seen this before? Donor was from MN. Incredible amounts of corrosion all over frame, etc.

NOT!!!

Why? It's impossible, AKAIK(without modifications to it atleast). And it would be a downgrade. As the 3VZ-E already has, arguably, the strongest block in the VZ engine series. It has more gusseting between the left and right cylinder banks than the rest(even the 5VZ-FE). Which should provide for more torsional stiffness and overall structural integrity.

What's wierd is it looks like the aluminum parts(heads, water and oil pump housings)are WAY more corroded than the iron/steel parts(engine block, bolts and pulleys).

Which means your thread title is x2 in need of some editting.

1. It's not actually the block that's corroded.

2. It's not actually a 3VZ-FE.

Looks to me like someone tried to use oven cleaner to clean the engine. And forgot(or didn't know) to keep the aluminum parts covered/protected during the process.

That's the only thing that I know of that's more corrosive to aluminum than iron/steel.

Ooops. Yeah, the title is a typo. Sorry. Least I got it write (right?) in the text.

Thanks MudHippy. Was gonna send you a msg (I sort of pay attn to whom writes what) and ask wtH? It does concern me. And as I"ve got to it, there a signs someones been there be4. (Like only 8 bolts on the chain cover. Missing the R hoist brkt, etc).

My plan was to inspect this one (it did run), replace head gaskets (have it checkd by competent machine shop, etc), belt, etc and have a decent motor to throw into my N0-Rust! 95. Now I wonder if I should just chunk it and buy a warranted reman. 'Ceptin I'm "between careers right now".
