i read in another thread in a different forum, someone stated it was illegal to put an newer year motor in an older truck

 

No it's illegal to put an older year motor into a newer truck.

Many people have done it tho, good luck doing it in california....

 

No it is not. However you do have to pass emissions with the newer motor criteria I think.

 

see i thought as long as the vehicle would pass emms according to the original specs of the engine the vehical came with, it was all good. which is exactly why i never put a 302 in my 94 runner

 

hahaha passing emisions in vermont unheard of because there are no real emission laws enforced here. but thats probly because everyone drives POS ford farm trucks lol.

And if its an OBD1, so anything before 1996, they dont check emissions in VT. I love this place. Haha.

It seems every state has thier own rules when it comes to this sort of thing but for the most part you shouldn't have to many problems as long as you can meet the emision requirments.

 

I dont get why everyone is stating that its such an issue to swap a newer motor into an older truck?

By law, In California. To perform a motor swap on a vehicle, the motor MUST be newer than the vehicle its going in, and it must have all of the factory emission options in the correct place on the new vehicle, as they were on the donor, and they must be functioning correctly.

Which is why the 3.4 swap is so popular here

 

on my '88 I just flash the lights and honk the horn and I pass inspection

 

In California, all the emissions for the newer motor mudt be 100% in tact from the motor to the cat converter/O2 sensors.
