the truck rode great before the zuk mod with just 2 inch blocks but now its like a steel wheeled wagon. i know shocks prole play a good factor but wats on it is some napa pro select something another shocks. ya know the cheap ones hahaha. but wats got me wondering the most is well everyone puts the 100 pound springs in the 4 runners and well a four runner weights alot more than a single cab pickup and im thinking the springs are to much maybe a 75 pound spring would be better? any suggestions? and im thinking bout getting bilstien 5100 series shocks and imput on that also would be great. thanks

 

Well, you buy cheap stuff, and you get a cheap ride.. what did you expect when you bought the cheap shocks?

 

Put some weight in the back and go for a ride, see if it make the ride better.

 

You have our blessings to post some good pics....pics of the overall truck and also a few from the spare tires point of view of the coils and the leafpacks. How much lift did the coils give you? Posting good pics of what you did helps with the troubleshooting that the Yotatech members will give. 75 pound springs will not help with your issue....the 114x100....or even the 14x 150 coils would normally give a better wide than stock leafs sagged on overloads. The pictures will help.

ps---33 x 14.50 swampers are not known for their good ride. Could that be the issue?

 

I put 14" 125lb springs in my 4runner and it's great.

As far as a truck goes I put the 14" 100lb ones in an 86 extended cab and it worked wonders.


What length 100lb coils did you use? Post some pictures when you can since it'll help us help you.


On a side note I think this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone not liking the Zuk mod.

Edit: I don't think shocks would make the ride that much worse. I ran the Napa Monroe Synsatracs on my pickup and they were fine, didn't alter the ride in a bad way at all. Of course the ones that were on there were the originals from 1986 and were shot. The shocks on my 89 4runner are pretty much shot as well, still saving money to order some new ones from Wabbit, and they don't seem to do much for my ride quality.

 

was this before or after you put the BJ spacers in? Because if your comparing the ride before and after the lift and you had to crank the t-bar up front to match the height of the rear, that's where your harsher ride is coming from. You said cheap shocks which ones? Complete model number please.

 

not bashing, but my initial reaction to adding coils was similar: 87 4runner, sagged so bad it was on the stops. I put in 14" 125lb springs.

After ~1500 miles, it softened up, but what I REALLY found to be a problem was that it was catching the cut bump-stop flange. I cut them down and beveled them out instead of straight cut, and this helped a lot! Also, found my shocks are now fully extending, and limiting my "ride" which causes some jarring.

All in all, the ride is better with some gear in the back, but even with no gear, better than hittin the stops on every bump!

3 cheers for a GREAT cheap mod, just don't expect it to ride like a fully coil sprung beast!

PS - to test, pull the coils and leave the BJ spacers to see if the ride is jarring from front or rear!

 

When you say it "softened up" do you mean it settled down? Did you lose any lift? Just wondering.

Good point lbeard. The 14 inch coil could be catching hard on the extended upper steel stopper....that's one more reason why I think it's better to cut them to about 1" long. They just slip in with no work that way. ZUK

 

yea its deffently in the back i know that. the front is smooth. i didnt cut my bumpstops down to short i think thats something i may need to look at because i cut the least amount i could off. so it may be catchin like everyones saying. and the shocks arnt maxed there made for three inchs lift. the napa shocks made by monroe or something. ill try and get a pic. i do like the added payload capactiy tho. doesnt squat a bit now.

and as for the ssr's they actually ride really good to be honest for a very aggressive mud tire i was impressed by the ride quality . and yes they fit on a -52 off set rim with no lift and only scrubbed a hair
