HID install in 2000 4runner fog lights, wireing help

Hello guys, my 4runner came with fogs (obviously wired in) as OEM. I have been forced to replace both the OEM front bumper and fog lights with aftermarket items.

I am in the process of choosing which fog lights to buy (which I will convert to HID), so my question is on how to wire the HID's in? The OEM harness has two wires, + and - for each light. Do I simply connect the ballast "in line" ie: + from ballast to + in the OEM wireing and the - in ballast to the - in OEM wireing on both sides then simply plug the bulbs into the ballast? Or, do I use a harness/relay/in line fuse similar to one (if not the same) used in plug and play H4 conversions?

Thanks

use the plug in and play set up to be safe unless it is made to plug into your 4runner harness,

No matter what aftermarket fogs I will buy or what kit (basically they're all the same...bulbs and ballasts, pending company name and quality) I will use.... nothing will be made to just plug into the OEM fog harness on the truck.

I was wondering if I could wire it up "in line" (sort of speak...by just putting the ballast in b/t the OEM harness and the bulbs) b/c the truck all ready has a fuse (and I believe a relay) for the OEM fogs so putting in the P n' P harness with the fuse/realy would just double up on those things.

Any input??

Thanks

i guess it would depent on the kit. the kit that i got for my headlights have an extra wire that runs to both boxes, not sure what it does but if the set u get does not have that wire sure it could work then.

now if all u are wanting is for the factory switch to turn them on and off then u can still do that u dont need to add another switch. just so u know.

dude, i'm not worried about adding another switch, never has been the issue. If you read what I said, I want to just put an HID kit into fogs on a truck that came with fogs from the factory therefore already having the OEM wireing (which includes the switch on the light stalk off the steering wheel). My main concern is how to wire in the ballast... I have no idea what extra wire you are talking about but all a ballast has are two plugs (two wires off each plug), one plug is for the bulbs, a + and - and the other is for power + and the - which is usually grounded to the body....

anyways, anyone out there that has sucessfully w/o issues put HID into your fogs? How did you wire it in?? thanks

Justin, thanks for posting that pic.... it looks like that is the "plug and play" part of the harness as its coming out of the + and - plug off the ballast. I simply have a pair of ballasts and bulbs and am pretty sure i can wire it all "in line" simply by putting the ballast in b/t the bulb and OEM wires but my concern is if that would be ok (since i know theres already a fuse and possbilby a relay in the OEM wireing or if I should use a standard plug and play harness that also has a fuse and realay....

Nobody out there put HID into their fogs? lol.... I know someone has! C'mon...
