3.4 v6 headers/power upgrades

Im looking to get a little more power from my motor im not really interested in super charging it. I know headers will help but I dont know anything about them! Im looking for something maintenance free and durable. (mud bumps etc)

Thanks! oh its a 98 4runner motor in a 96 t100 4x4 sr5

the 3.4 is pretty nice from the factory. but its up to you... personally, Id go with DT Longtube 3.4 headers.

Keep the stock manifolds.

I decided not to get headers after I found out how hard they are to install on the 3.4. From what I understand, the crossover pipe is very hard to access without pulling the motor. Just leave the stock manifolds. If you need more power perhaps you want to regear.

So the stock ones are gonna hold up better than any aftermarket headers? If its really that big of a pain maybe I should skip it. What about a chip?

Yes.

Skip the chip too, re-gearing is a good way to get more out of your power band but I see you've already got 4.88s/ with 33s so unless you have an auto tranny that's a good ratio. If you had an auto you could go to 5.29's but that's only one small step lower than 4.88s and may not be worth the $$$.

Ya I'm not going regear again. Right now at freeway speeds I'm in between 2500-2800 rpm (was 3000-3300 with 32s) so I like where the gears are. I agree too much cash also. Guess I will wait until my motor dies and swap in a 4.7 v8 from a tundra. But I only have about 100k on the motor so that won't happen for about 10 years
