Spare tire mount, 89 4runner

Finally got the spare mounted where I want it.

With a little eyeball measuring I still have room for the water can and fuel can mounts and my largest ice chest up there. That leaves room in the back for my camping box, fishing gear and other things.

Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to build and install the storage compartment that goes where the spare used to mount under the back.

I'll keep you folks informed.

Good question!!! After reading that post I made a phone call to Garvin and was told that the rack is designed to hold all the accessories (and parts) that come with it. The guy said that up over 200lbs is nothing to worry about but I'll keep it as light as possible, maybe the ice chest will have to go in the cargo area.... dang it.

Figure 60lbs for the tire, 40lbs for the wheel-100lbs
Fuel and water cans- 80lbs
Jack and shovel/axe- 30lbs?

So yeah that's about it I think...... well at least I can carry all that stuff on top and out of the way.

I knew someone was going to point that out and yes it is a mild concern. Honestly though my rock crawling days are done, well I never really got into it alot so I could say my rock crawling "day" is over. Primarily the rig is used as a DD and a weekend camping/fishing/expedition rig with very very little off camber situations so I'm hoping it'll be ok.

I'll be sure and post up pics if I roll it Scuba.

well at least if it rolls it will land on its wheels..I mean wheel seriously though that is a nice rack. I want to get something for my runner eventually, but i am thinking on putting my spare on a swing out bumper, and I was going to build a infloor storage compartment to keep all my trail gear. thats the plan anways.

Let me get my storage compartment built that installs in the factory spare area built before you do anything crazy. You might like the idea and I'll send you specs on it.
