turn signals on bumper lights, parking lights on corner lights?

I did some searching but didn't find this exact problem...

I'm new to yotas and just noticed something on my '85.
When I turn on the parking lights and/or headlights, the corner turn signals light up but not the amber lights in the front bumper.

When I use my turn signal, the amber lights in the front bumper will blink, but not the corner turn lights - they stay off.

I just want to make sure that this is not right before start tracing back through the wiring harness. Should the corner lights & bumper lights turn on & blink together?

That's how they work. The corner lights are just "marker lights." You can modify those corner lights to blink if you want. Search on 4x4wire.com for that. I believe it was done on a tacoma but it's the same basic idea.

So your side markers go off when you go to turn on your turn signals?

Depends on how you wire the lights and what kind of bulbs you use. I use dual filament 1157 bulbs, just like the rear marker/brake lights and they stay on while blinking:

oops, I didn't mean that. The side markers are constantly lit when the parking/headlights are on, even when turning.

If that's the way all our 85's are all then cool. I just didn't want to have another reason to get pulled over... they already don't like my bumper height haha

Yeah that's how they all work, corner lights go on with the headlight switch and the bumper lights are the turn signals. Corner lights don't blink, they are constantly lit, and bumper lights only ever turn on when you are using your signal.

hey... come on.... be nice to the guy. he's got the right idea, newer vehicles have more things that light up and blink than our trucks do

i know i shouldnt ask a different question on someone else's thread but i cant start my own yet
i have a 1985 4runner and the license plate lights aren't working
i checked the fuses and the bulbs themselves but all are fine
does it mean that it must just be the wiring or could there be something else?

See below:

Likely the connector inside the rear door is pulled apart.
