Found a local guy parting out a 1989 toyota supra mk3. Is there anything we 1st gen 4runner folks should grab?

possible the rear, to swap out the 7.5" if you have IFS (supralux mod)

Engine, 7MGe?

Front Seats

Get creative, search for mods you may want to do in the future. There is a huge Supra fan base, if you get a part you don't want or need later you shouldn't have much problem unloading it.

 

I thought only the afm from an 82 would work. Am I wrong about this?

 

^^^ since you don't list your engine i cannot tell you.
I'm guessing you have a 22re, in which case yes just the 82

A ton of stuff will resell to other people on craigslist, ebay, etc. Think the small stuff.

 

I thought the AFM will work as long as you swap the insides from a 22RE afm to the larger supra AFM

 

I think the 89 had an 8" diff, but if it's not LSD, why bother.

 

If it has a 5spd manual transmission and it's not turbo-charged then it has a W58. You'll probably be able to find a 2wd owner with a 4spd transmission looking to upgrade. I've got a W58 out of an '88 supra sitting on the shop floor waiting for me to swap.

What's great is that it's an '89 mk3 supra so that means if it does have a W58, then it's the rarer version with the steel sandwich plate, which is considered to be stronger than the older W58s with an alloy sandwich plate. Wikipedia claims that makes it insanely more valuable, if the guy parting it out doesn't know this... then you could stand to make a tidy profit reselling it.

 

The AFM part number is 22250-43110, so if it has that part number grab the AFM, it would be plug and play for anyone wanting to do an AFM swap.

 

I have MKIII Supra seats in my pickup. So comfortable. Soon to have a 7mgte as well.


All 86.5-92 Supras had the same differential size/housing. All turbo models came with a LSD, clutch pack type. Sport package N/A's came with a 4:30 LSD, while some JDM cars came with a 4:10 Torsen differential.

Edit: if you're looking in junkyards for a differential from a Supra, here's the data tag information you'll need to figure out the gear ratios:
