Drag race with new Z

I went to Irwindale speedway to watch my friend mess around with his new Z.
They have staging there so I raced him!
I couldn't burn out (which was a good thing). Maybe TRAC or my MT/R's

Anyway, he couldn't pull away from me until we hit about 40mph! I was surprised. We were neck and neck. Haw-haw!

he wanted to go again with the same result. Haw-haw.

I got bored after that so I let him get smoked by a monster el camino. Haw-haw!

I can goof on him now since he always busts my balls on how slow I drive.
Maybe he just sucks at shifting.

Very nice, if he could not pull past you till 40 thats bad, the V8 is rated at about 7.2-4 to 60 depending on what magazine you read and the V6 is about a second slower so if you where with him then Toyota has way underrated these trucks

Does he have a 6speed cause then he can't shift.

I love having fun with cars, it's great

Yeah I just looked at him real serious and said, "Man.......either your car sucks..... or you do."

I don't think the V6 is a full second slower to 60, no way. I bet the V8 got the punch off the line for sure but above 25mph I bet not.

Well I have to admit once the Z got going it just kept pulling and pulling when mine hit the wall. Above 40mph, it officially blew my doors off. But man! I have MT/R's on there for crissake!
You had to be there, it was funny.

Hey imagine if I had my lightweight Dunlops on there! Maybe I woulda beat him!

i'd agree, never really read to much into the magazines afterall, motor trend, car & driver and road and track had the V6 5speed altima faster then the 6speed maxima:pat: and still they had slower times then posted by owners on altimas.net or maxima.org

In the end the Max was faster but the altima is right behind it

It would have been sweet to be their and your tires probably slowed you down on take off, next time roll back 5 feet from the starting line to give him an equal chance

Just the 4Runner weight compared to the Z is

Firsttoy, just slap a "Type-R" sticker on your window and race him again, I'll bet you'd be suprised by the results.

Type-R jokes? Theres no joke about it- A Type-R sticker will definitely give you more horsepower depending on the size.

Now keep it on the down low, but I'm working on a 'Type-SRLXZ7' sticker that might be able to rival a supercharger in extra horses added. So far, the only version I've come up with is only 5 state legal, so I'm continuing the R&D.

I'll definitely give YotaTech members a discount!

FWIW: I beat my friend who has a 2004 V6 2WD.... The V8's are faster, but I think it's more the 5sp tranny than the HP or motor. I'm not a car guy.

I also beat a friend with a 350Z, but I cheated... I punched it and went over in his lane. I was willing to take him out, he wasn't willing to take the hit... Oh well...

So what was your 1/4 mile times and what were the Z's;the end of the race is what counts.

Not really with the truck having lower gears;they get the initial jump from the line and up to 40 isn't much;I am hoever impressed with the turbo diesels that can beat alot of cars and with a few simple mods (more boost, propane injection) can run the 1/4 in nearly 12 seconds flat.
There's a local guy who runs a 12.7 in his Dodge (quicker than a Viper,911TT up here at 5800ft ) and off the propane can still hit a 14 flat.

Racing to 40 isn't a sport to me.

street racing isn't a sport at all. Unless you're on the track or dragstrip, it isn't a race at all.

0-40 or 30-60mph are alot more important to real world driving than 1/4 mile times.

I honestly don't care what the 4R can do in a drag race, it was just fun that one time on the track.
I hate people that race around on the street because they kill people all the time.
It's insane, ignorant and really, really stupid. I have no sympathy for road rage and reckless driving. I think the penalties should be alot higher for offenses like that.

Not saying I'm perfect but street racing... in a 5000lb chunk of steel with a solid frame over a foot off the ground? A tin can Civic is bad enough...

I don't mean to come down like a hard arse 'cause I know people jet around in sports cars all the time but there is a difference between a sunday drive and street racing in traffic.

Whoa bud;where did I say anything about STREET RACING?

I was talking track times my whole post and start giving me a lecture on illegal racing;where did that come from?

You got some pent up rage or something?

No hard feeling and I know your rage when it comes to irresponsible street racers who tear around on busy streets.
