Trying to see if a 97' 4wd Auto harness will work in a 99' 2wd Auto from a 3.4?

I am not sure. I would think that you would probably have to end up moving a few pins around but you may get lucky and it does just plug in and everything is in the correct spot.

What I would do is check out Jeff's pinout guide, print it out for the years that you are looking at and compare each pin's function.

If you have to change the pinout so things re in the correct spot, here is how if you are not sure already. Go about halfway down the page till the wiring stuff starts.

im still confused if the plugs are the same between the 4x2 and 4x4.
in that pin out guide it was for 4x4 vehicles.

im attempting to do a 4x4 harness in a 2x4 ECU.
but cant find out if the plugs are the same with maybe extra wires?

i looked at the pinout from a 97' 4x4 and a 99' 4x4 and they are the same but just dont know if they are the same for a 99' 4x2.

 

2x4 and 4x4 will use the same plugs. There is no drivablilty difference as far as the ECM goes although it would be ideal to grab the same ECM. What it your part number for your ECM?
