typical toyota frame rail rust. :(

hey. is there any known way to prevent the typical rusted out frame that early toyotas (early 80's) get after years? or is it just poor cleaning? rarely have i ever seen one in stock condition and it not be rusted out or at the worst broke! i was just wondering if theres any thing special i should do when i fix man and get it back on the road. any thought would be greatly appriciated

Red face

If you never drive in the rain or snow and keep it in a climate controled garage it should last longer. Move to southwest

The only thing you can really do is keep a close watch on it don`t play in the mud or road salt without washing it off .

remove the loose undercoating as the moisture gets behind and can`t get out. Then rusts

Get some POR 15 hardnose. It's similar to the regular POR 15 but tougher and resistant to UV, so there is no way it's ever going to wear out. It encapsulates the rust.

Frames rust from the inside out. How is por going to fix that. If I had to do it over I would have sprayed yearly oil up inside the frame via a loooong flexible wand.
