Soft Top people I need your opinions

I'm about to purchase the soft topper for my 4runner but do not like the windows on the sides cause you can see right into the truck. Which I think makes it even more inviting to unsnap the top and grab what ever you want. I talked to bob at soft topper and he said that he can make them with out windows but it wont be until jan-feb. I will be using this on my hunting truck, so I'll have the usual guns, climber, ect.. in the truck.

Do you wish yours didn't have window? Do you think I should wait?

I have the pickup soft topper for my... well... pickup. I do not have windows on the sides, just one in the back. I would recommend waiting until jan-feb if that's when bob says they will be available. I wouldn't like buying a top for my bed in order to cover it, but still have everyone take a peek inside. Not to mention that I will be starting a sleeping platform project soon and can't exactly see why having windows would help that. Glad it's flat black solid on the sides, but then again... I have a pickup, you have a runner. I'm not concerned about passengers at all in my rig since I can't take anymore than one next to me.

thanks guys this is the kind of feed back I was looking for. I had also read that the windows will some time crack when you roll them up in the cold.

keep'em coming

Are the panels on the Soft topper removable, like (dare i say) jeep soft tops?
Are you planning on having a rear window? Wouldn't that be just as easy to peak in?
I will be purchasing a soft topper in the spring. I was under the impression that those windows can be tinted...?

I think the rear window is the only piece that is removable.
Not having the two side windows just seems like a better idea. I can always store things on the seat or fab something up that covers the back window if need be.
I have no idea if the windows are tintable???

I got my Killer Toy Top with solid sides, thought it would protect the interior in the sun and hide whatever on the inside. But that is a big blind spot. I found out one day backing out of a spot in a parking lot. Nobody was coming, started moving then a car which was speeding came up laying down on the horn. Then I got the tinted window sides.

I would go with the windows. The blind spot that is created by the solid size would be too much for me personally. I have had softtop 1st gen runners as my daily drivers for almost 20 years now and I have never had anything stolen out of any of them...top up or down.

You can still see in the back and the sides and if they want it, they are going to get it...period.

Truth be told the only thing that I am ever paranoid about when the top is down would be the canvas top itself. Take the stereo and all the other crap..it's all replaceable...the top really isn't.

Oh, here's what the CC top looks like.

Indeed the blind spot is bad.

I also noticed how hard it would be to back out of a parking spot and making sure you are clear on the passenger side. It's pretty much the same thing as a pickup truck with a solid shell on it.

doesn't anyone make a top with removable covers for the windows? if they don't, seems like a fairly easy thing to have made/diy - perhaps a perimeter of velcro on the inside of the vinyl that a matching solid panel could stick onto would work? would be very easy to install/remove or even just expose part of it should you need to.

Not sure if you have seen this, but if you are worried about theft in a soft top look at RambleWriter's 4Runner. I'm at work and can't copy pics, but here is a link to the site with a video.

haha i'm not that worried about theft. I just wanted to get the opinions of some other guys on how they felt about the "openess" of the top. If someone really wants to get inside to take something I'm not going to go the measures that guy has to prevent it. I might just be lucky enough to meet them on the way out of the woods when they are in the act.
