Hello,

I'm having some trouble finding a part number/replacement part for the power steering pump. The truck has ABS and we replaced the pressure hose to pump and the return hose to pump, where it seemed to have been leaking. None of the new connections are leaking, but it seems to be leaking from a Vacuum fitting on the lower side of the pump. two vacuum hoses connect to it. here is a picture reference that shows the port on the pump where the fitting goes. That's the idle up valve. Have you tried tightening the fitting? Mine went bad & I simply disconnected it & glued the holes shut; it's HELLA expensive & not really needed IMO. It idles up the engine when you hit the bump stops turning all the way left or right.

 

You can replace those relatively cheap, by finding them at a wrecking yard.

 

thank you for the help, and no i have not tried tightening the fitting due to the fact that it is plastic and my truck is used as an every day work truck. i didnt want to end up breaking a part that i dont have a replacement for... yet. I always choose to go with a fully functioning factory replacement first, but if that is not possible or overly expensive, i will just disable the device. does anyone see any issue with removing the fitting and replacing it with a plug if needed? Im just trying to find a temp solution if i do end up breaking it.

OR you could replace the entire pump with an Autozone rebuild; currently $78.99. That's what I did.

The valve causes the idle to increase when you crank hard on the steering; otherwise you'd kill the engine while parallel parking. Unless you already have the idle set a little too high ....

I'm pretty sure it's a taper-thread, but I'm also sure it's a metric thread. Someone else will have to tell you where to find such a plug; your local hardware store is not likely to have it. There is a lot of pressure behind it; I doubt jbweld or anything like that is likely to hold very long.
