I've read that it's on the door tab, drivers side.

4.38s only available in 1980, 3.90s only available in 1981, 8" drums.

4.10 for manual trans

4.30 for auto trans.

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/

Funny thing is they don't list an auto trans for an 83 only a 5sp manual. No mention of a 4sp manual either. So I don't know how accurate I am reading that.

Thumbs up

My bad it is a 5 speed not a 4 speed hit wrong button. As for the tag its there but can't read it. I found a 410 rear end so I guess I'll go with that. Thanks for all the help, I'm sure I will have alot more questions in the future. I plan to make it in to a Hardcore offroad toy.

Just so you know, if you put 4:10's in the rear, you HAVE to have 4:10's in the front.... you WILL have off road drama, Tumble. You need to be sure, ...just call the dealer with your vin number and voila, they should tell you no problem. Or, just call Marlin or one of those guys like Wabbit and have them tell ya... As long as they're POSITIVELY stock, I'm sure you'll find out quick from the 'pro's'... Xxxtreme is a very knowledgeable guy.. and I'm sure what he said was on the money....and if you're sure it's 'stock', back there, you're good to go! Hope it's a toight like a toiger Pumpkin!

Here's what I used to find mine:

Not sure if yours would apply given the age, but might help.

EDIT: Whoops sorry didn't read your post about not being able to read the tag.

well just got it a week ago and he got it from the his brother that got it new but you know how that goes. I just started to dig into to it, it runs great and I picked it up for 700.00 so cant complain. I usaully play with chevys but tired of builting the same thing and it seems that toys are heck of all easier to built for fun. I never owned a toy before so new stuff to learn. But I thank you all for the help.
