I need 4.88 gears for my 1997 4Runner 2WD

I need 4.88 gears for my 1997 4Runner 2WD. What is the cheapest and easiest way to do this? I know i could get a new third member with new gears, but that will cost at least $600.00 or more. Is there any other way to do this? Did Toyota ever offered a factory 4.88 rear end that will be a direct fit on my truck? Thanks!!

Gears are expensive, no way around that. Finding a factory 4.88 diff will be very hard as they are the rarest of all. You can get a ring and pinion for ~$150 and a master bearing kit is ~$175-200. So with tax and or shipping, you're looking at $350-400 in parts so $600 installed is a good price.

check out ebay. i just ordered mine for an 89 pickup from justdifferentials. came with master install kit and nittro gear r&p for 320 shipped
im sure you can find better deals somewhere, if youo can do the install yourself if not then a third member would come out cheaper around here.

Why do you need 4.88s? 4.56s are alot easier to find in junkyards.

IDK about a 2WD T100, but I know for a fact an 8" from a Mini won't... WILL NOT bolt into a 4WD T100.

My 4WD T had 4:87's factory.

wouldn't pull a flea off a dogs back, but had 4:87's... And god do I miss that truck.

Only needed a 4.3

Sorry it took me this long to reply to your question, I'm going with 4.88 because I will be running 33x12.5x15. I think 4.88 will give my truck back the factory power and maybe a little more. Thanks!!
