Exclamation emergency brake light comes on and off randomly?

the E-Brake light on my 96 4runner sr5 likes to randomly come on...the switch up front where the handle is not sticking or anything..i didnt know if its a sensor somewhere else or what...does anyone have an idea as to what is causing my light to come on and go off at random times?

I know in the older trucks and 4Runners that means your brake fluid is low. Have you checked that?

X2

The "Brake" light does come on when the e-brake is on but also shows that there is an issue with the service brakes. Usually it is a low level of fluid. This doesn't necessarily mean that you are loosing fluid. The fluid level will get lower as the pads and shoes wear.

ok guys...looked at the reservoir and the fluid level is just above the min marking...i would assume during brake operation..the fluid could drop...so possibly it could trigger the switch.
