Alright, before I get flamed to oblivion, I have searched the net and this site for a homemade 3-link write-up/info and have found nothing conclusive. Been debating which way to go with suspension and have landed on the 3-link. Any links, info would be greatly appreciated! Its for an 85' 4runner if that helps!

 

why not do a four-link? there people on here that have them. and i could be wrong but im pretty sure they get better flex and are all around better

 

why not just use this? http://www.trail-gear.com/trail-link-four I thought 3 link systems were pretty much reserved for the front ?

 

Yeah its the front i'm thinkin about, with a pair of nice flexin springs and shocks in the rear. I would go four link, but I'd still like to keep it street legal.

Lol!! I was lookin at that, just hoped to find someone that did it themselves, as $1000 is alot for a broke ass student!

 

I think by the time you get the link material, steel for your brackets, hiems etc etc. your gonna be quite close to that amount.

then you got to figure out which shocks to go with.

Just added it up, its not too far off from the trail-gear kit. At least with the kit there is no guess work! thanks for the replies fellas

 

Also take into account coilovers ($1200 with springs) or Air shocks($700 and lots of body roll).

You will not be able to fit coils and shocks separately with much ease at all. You also need to take into account steering as the TG kit will not allow for highsteer. You need full hydro with that kit.

I did my own 3-link front and designed it myself, but mine is a pretty high end 3-link. IMHO, its most definitely not a good idea to cut corners on a 3-link.

shocks $200, Stock TJ springs from junk yard(+or- 3 inches of lift) $20, link material $10 per foot at rustys, Rod ends $35ish a piece, satifaction of you done it yourself with your own mind and hands priceless. i am also a fab shop foreman so its easier for me to say that but i thought i would throw it out there. if i bought a kit i would go trail gear and coilovers

You hit that on the head mc customs. I havent done fab work this big, thats one reason I want to do it myself, the accomplishment!
