Next comes the winch.

I love that bumper, and it looks great on your rig! I want mine to look like that someday, I also have stock-ish ride height.

 

looks great... love the look of a nice new plated bumper... mines had its use and is faded/scratched.

 

It took me sometime to justify buying it, they're so expensive.

But worth every penny!

ARB truly makes a quality product.

The only issue was knowing where to place the hardware.

The ARB manual isn't very helpful. The manual basically says "take the bolts and washers and us them somewhere".

 

I have one on my 88 and the truck looks great with it on.
I am running 4" lift and 33's and it really fits the truck.
Only difference is, mine is not a winch model....

Only thing you need to do on the early IFS trucks is cut off the two bumper mounts on top of the frame....

If my truck was not trapped in the garage, I would post a pic....

I can't believe you mounted it without the winch?! You'll definitely have to take it off again to install the winch, it would definitely be easier to do it that way anyway...

I love my ARB. It fit like a glove and looks so much better than that useless flimsy POS stock bumper... And yeah the ARB instructions and somewhst to be desired, you'll find you're pretty much on your own to install the Winch. You'll have to drill holes in the roller fairlead if you go with a metal rope style which I found out. If you're wondering what the massive like 6" long bolts are for they're actually to install through the two vertical rollers of the fairlead. Use these and maybe a ratchet strap to locate and hold the fairlead tightly in place while you drill the holes through the back of the bumper for the winch mount bolt holes through the fairlead. Unfortunately the fairlead is generic so it doesn't have the holes for this installaion. Took me about 6 hrs to install both, but I was really taking my time. I loved how my ARB came with the turn indictator lights, from everywhere I read I needed some 89-94 truck or something lights to go in there, it was a nice surprise!

 

Oh and if anyone wants to know the cheapest place I could find mine was 4WheelParts and I thought they were excellent to deal with, even with the shipping to Canada. They also had the cheapest price I could find on the Warn M8000 too...

 

Same for me, 4Wheelparts had the cheapest price on the bumper, and they had a smoking deal on the M8000. Both have served me well in the year since I put them on.

I did crack one of my turn signal lenses tightening the screw against the gasket force. Be carefull with that part of it.

Putting that bumper on with the winch installed is a three man job, that thing weighs a ton once you put a winch in it with the wire rope.

I mounted PIAA lights on mine, they bolt right into the locations ARB provided for driving lights.

I did find on the first gen 4Runner that the bumper fit too close to the fenders. It hit my fenders on each side. I went ahead and installed a 3/4" body lift to get clearance at the bumper and for various other reasons.

Love those bumpers.

AHAH! So it's you damn first gen guys that ruin it for us 2nd gen'ers? It's the exact opposite for us, it's too far away from the fenders for my liking. I had to go ahead and paint that part of the fender black to make it not look so obvious. I feel that did the trick though, looks fine now.

In fact I've attached a pic to illustrate my point. It's a pic I found on google image it is NOT MY TRUCK. It's the only disappointing thing about the ARB for me. Wish they would have made it exclusively for 2nd gens, screw you first gen guys I'm happy I found that picture though at least I knew it was gonna be something I'd have to deal with.

That figures, some marketing/bean counter got involved and wanted the same bumper to fit both rigs, due to cost reasons.

On the first gen trucks, the bumpers have those wing brackets that pick up the bumper mounts on the side of the front subframe. Those are not used on the first gen trucks. We have to cut our bumper mounts off to get the thing on the rig. Those wing brackets actually hit the front body mounts, but nowhere in the instructions does it say to bend them out of the way, and who wants to bend stuff on their brand new bumper?

There really should be two bumpers, one for the first gen's with IFS and one for the second gens with IFS. They do have a first gen bumper for leaf springs, not sure how much different the mounting is with that one.
