Greetings from Europe!

I bought my 1994 2.4d diesel double cab Hilux in the winter of 2009. It was pretty much a stock ride (no turbo, AC, minimal lift) in OK condition:




After some minor mods and a ghetto paintjob:



The wobbly steering, leaky front axle, front brakes, clutch, hand brake was fixed, among many other things... An OME spring set was added. Then I draw up some plans in Google sketchup:



So a strong, custom roof rack was made:



Then a frame for the tarp before a tour to Sweden:



In Sweden with the tarp off, Airflow snorkel and Bfg KM2 265/75s :



After some more modding, like adding a custom bullbar, and a Horn 9500-Q fast-winch, this is the current version:






Next step is some bodywork, a bit more lift, 33x12.5 tyres, roof and bullbar lights, and maybe an engine swap.... Honestly, I can't stand the current tyres. What do you guys think?

 

Dude, I have spent some good times on Europe. Always fells in love with the yota's over there. I wish Toyota gad a market for those rigs here. Keep up the good work. Later

Wonder why the US didnt allow the import of those trucks? Everyone else on the globe got them. 4 door, utility bed, solid axle, diesel option......sheesh, think of how much money we could save starting with one of those?

 

Yep no kidding! Seeing truckS like this when deployed oversea always ticked me off knowing it took till 2001 for Toyota to pull their head out

I doubt it was toyota's doings. The cost for them to tool and die a completely different truck was not cost beneficial. Im fairly sure it had more so to do with our lovely Gooberment telling us what was safe.

I like the tires. No more bed or rack??

 

Yeah, ditched the old bed, too much hassle and always gets damaged. Now I can bump stuff freely with the side and the back of the bed, or use it as support when offroading - and never worry about tailgaters.

The flatbed is not fully finished, still missing spare tire, a rim around the edge, and maybe a medium sized box for recovery gear.

 

Very nice rig dude. Did you make that roof rack yourself? I am looking for one for my Yota too but cant seem to find anything on the internet

 

Roof rack was custom made by a local "artist".

I hope you still own the Hilux
Do you mind telling me how the roof rack mounts were fixed to the roof (top of the doors)?
Did you drill the roof and fix it using nuts and bolts? Did it cause any water leakages from the roof?
Can you post a pic of roof rack mounts by keeping the doors open?

My mechanic finding it difficult to fix the roof rack as he hasn't done a similar type before on a Hilux LN106.

Yea, I still have it.

The roof was drilled and fitted with 8 nuts. The rack is fixed with small screws.
Using small screws is important not to weaken the cab structure.

The roof rack never shifted even under heavy use and I never had any water leakage over the last 8 years.
