did a search but couldn't find anything similar, my cousin has a early nineties 22 re 4x4 2 door truck and mice ate through the wiring harness where it goes thru the firewall.

all the wires are there but we are unsure if we should just connect them or replace the wiring harness?

if we connect them does anyone have suggestions or experience on how to do it? (which type of connectors, diagram, etc?)

any ideas would be appreciated, we have general experience (brakes, lifts, seals, hoses, head gaskets, etc) but not alot of experience with electrical / wiring.

if a new harness is needed, any ideas on replacement sources, vehicles?

The best way to fix the wires is to solder them together and then use shrink wrap over the connections. Then get some Decon and put it around the truck to keep the mice away (LOL).

 

if you have enough room you can cut the wire wrap back ,put a good heat shrink tubing on each wire and solder the wires together .do one wire at a time and tape the bundle when done. if the wires are damaged in multiple places it might be better to replace the harness.

 

yeah, they crawled up in there during the winter, I was thinking about getting him a cat!

so soldering would work? what about crimp connectors with shrink wrap? too weak?

yeah, we do have some meat on the wire, may have to pull some thru tho


alot of the wires are similar same in color, any ideas of diagrams or info on which it which?

Toyota uses SOY based wires...rodents love the stuff! Think that rodents just like toyotas? Nope they dig that soy!!!

But good luck man at least they're not inside your intake or something, too big to get out! Yup seen that too!

Crimp connectors used on automotive wiring are a problem waiting to happen. Moisture and corrosion cause probably 99% of all wiring issues. You've got to keep the moisture out, the only sure way to do that in a splice is to solder it and the only way to keep moisture from getting to the conductors is to seal the insulation back of the splice with heat shrink. If it's an area that gets lots of moisture the heat shring should have an adhesive coating inside that completely seals the splice when the shrink tubing is installed.
