Rear Leaf Springs?? 2wd 4wd difference? interchangeable?
ok my brother has a 2wd toyota i think its a 87 or 88 model and the rear leaf springs have bit the dust from hauling heavy loads.. we cant seem to find any 2wd leaf springs around here.. i have found some 4wd.. i know that the 4wd will have an extra leaf or so but are the mounting spots the same? could we install 4wd leafs and it work but it would give the rear a lift?? any info is greatly appreciated.. just trying to figure out the best way of helping him out..

Youll have to change the center pin around. Or cut it off and get a new one. (4$ at napa) Not sure on the 2wd length but the 4wd length for those years was 43" If hes hauling heavy loads alot, the 4wd springs might be a better option for him anyway.

2wd leafs are 2+1, 4wd leafs are 3+1 and have extra bump stops on the wraps.
I just measured one of my leafs for you, it's just under 47" eye-to-eye not following the arch (if the leaf was flat it'd be over 47" eye-to-eye). The spring is not on my truck at the moment, and I am not near enough to my truck to measure what the length would be installed. I do know that my leafs are not very tired.

on the center pin cutting off are you talking about if i get 4wd leafs or if i get 4runner leafs?
so it sounds that the 2wd leafs are longer than 4wd if 4wd has 43s and his not arched are 47 wouldnt that make 2wd like 53s or am i going the opposite way?? keep the feedback coming

i would say the 47's would work and if anything you could use a longer shackle. but where does the center pin measure out to? that will tell you more then the total length.
also where are you located because 2wds are plentiful here, its the 4x4s that are like hens teeth.

I just replaced the leafs on my 96 4x4 with a set from an 89 sr5 2wd and they bolted right in, so I imagine the opposite would work as well. My old ones looked like a recurve bow so I got about an 1.5" lift out of the replacements. They measured 51" just like the table says so you might be able to look in 95.5-2004 years if you havenet solved by now

Sorry to raise this thread but I can't help but hijack in hopes someone here can lend a hand. I need new leafs on my '95 2wd p/u, I am looking at some old man emu springs which have the option of 43" or 47", I would want the 47" from what I am reading here, can anyone verify this?

I'm trying to replace mine right now in my 88 2wd 4spd and I found the chart posted above on the 4wd springs but I found a set of 2wd springs with these measurements and when I measured the ones on my truck the way the charts show. I come up with 20.875(7/8) from center towards the front and 26.375(3/8) towards the back and the 4wd ones are 20.5 and 26.750 which is very minimum difference but would cause the rear-end to shift back 3/8" now my question is wouldn't that reduce the strength of the drive shaft/transmission spine connection? here is leaf spring I found also a link in case anyone else is looking for springs, only place I've found with them...
