My New to Me 1984 Truck
Hey folks, been lurking here for a while checking things out and building that wealth of knowledge up... Meanwhile, I was able to secure my new buddy. It's a good old '84 with around 81K on the body and only 1K on the motor. The original owner I bought it from took me over to the shop to pick it up from having the 1000 mile valve adjustment done on the 22R. So far, I've slapped a stereo in, changed the fuel pump (diaphragm had a small leak) and replaced the front bumper corner. The guy I bought it from is a good friend and knew I was looking for a Toy truck and let me have it like you see it for $500.
Hopefully, as finances allow, I plan to do something with that rear bumper, replace the springs (No major lift or anything, but I may do an OME 2" or just find new replacements and shocks), tires and a few paint/rust/bedliner (herc or monsta) changes... Oh yes, that infamous dash crack has to go and the old leather bench seat will probably get a cloth bench upgrade of some kind since I'll be driving two people with me at times... (Hard to do in buckets.)

Over some time, I'll be nailing some questions, I'm sure, but I promise to always use that helpful "search" thing that people fuss about before I ask...

Thanks! I'm going to be taking time to get things done on it, but I'll keep the progress updated over time. The old saying says time is money, right? I may go ahead and take that old bent rear bumper off for now and go without it until I get a better one. I haven't decided yet if I want to leave it for protection or just take it off for looks. Another good friend has a good assortment of steel he uses to repair heavy equipment, so I may go to him with a simple new bumper design. I've see some pretty good ones on here that he could fab and weld pretty quick.

I haven't been able to find a decent seat cover for the old bench with the rip under my tail end. That's why I thought I'd go to the junkyard and see what I might scrounge up to replace it in better shape and out of cloth. If it wasn't for needing the three seats, I would have grabbed a couple of buckets out of a 4runner and threw in there.

The $500 caught me off guard as well. The guy I got it from was the original owner and he obviously didn't drive it much. He bought a new full size truck and decided to sell the Toyota to me. There are still some pretty good folks left out there in this world. The pictures make it look really good and I think it's in pretty good shape for an 84, especially the motor and the straight body. It does have some scratches here and there and the typical rust bubbles around the rear wheel well and the bottom of the bed, but I'm thrilled to be back in the Toyota world again...

It's a stick. It has a couple of spots of rust on the usual places, but I'm going to start with some minor repairs on bed sides and a couple of other minor spots. I am probably going to herculiner or monstaliner the inside of the bed in a couple of week (I hope) in order to help prevent any more from happening inside the bed. It's not rusted out or anything, but just a couple of spots that can (it appears) be sanded and lined.

Sorry... She's in the blood and I can't get rid of her now...
I would say that the sliding windows would be tougher to tint because of the size... My back window turned out great and spot free, so I am going to do my sides this week to knock some of the heat out.

Nice. I have an 89 that I paid 2800 for and have dumped over 1000 into just in stupid repairs because the previous owner cobbed everything. It has spent more time in my yard than on the road, so I am am more than jealous. Congrata on the steal and may you have better luck with it than I am having with mine. Even though this Yota (my first vehicle) is turning out t obe a pain in the butt, My next truck will still be one. They never die (though mine certainly likes to quit) and are easy to fix. i wish i had your good fortune.

Thanks... I pulled the bumper off on Thursday and I think we may put a flat piece of channel back on sometime this week just to have a straight bumper and a little protection.
I've also been trying to find some good diy write-ups on rust repair so I can go ahead and take care of the few areas before they go totally cancerous on me and then put me at a spot of having to replace things and not repair.
Thanks...
