Brad,
Did you get the stainless steel version or the aluminum one? What year is your Runner and was wondering why you went with the catback piping and not just the muffler alone? I am asking all of this because I am going to get my setup on mon.

Thumbs up

I got the aluminum cat back 14 gauge with the free flow muffler. You will love the set up!! They didn't have the stainless steel.
Oh well, I can already feel a little more power and better gas mileage.

ts1- I don't know what year 4Runner (or truck, not sure what you drive Brad ) But on the 2nd Gen 4Runners the stock pipes are 1-7/8" Diameter if I remember correctly, and with a free flowing muffler it really hurts the performance if you use such a small tube with it, because it can't flow out as well (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, i'm guessing here ) So I went with the 2-1/4" piping because I read and heard from people on these boards that 2-1/4" is pretty much the ideal size for optimal performance. I believe (again i'm just saying what i've read on these boards) on the 3rd Gen 4Runners the stock pipes are 2-1/4" or 2-1/2", so if you have a 3rd Gen you should only have to get a new muffler, unless your pipes are really rusted.

Oh and I got the aluminum muffler, mainly because I live in Southern California, and rust isn't really a problem here I bought the same muffler that Corey has (Magnaflow Part# 11225)

So in short, if you have a 2nd Gen 4Runner (1990-1995) You should get new 2-1/4" piping, and if you have a 3rd Gen (1996-2002) you should be fine with just getting a new muffler.

Hopefully I didn't ramble too much, and it all made sense  And hopefully I was able to help atleast a little

Believe me, when you pull out of the exhaust shop (or wherever you're going to get it done) you won't understand how you drove your truck without an upgraded exhause... Well atleast that's how I was when I pulled out And as Corey, and BTown, and pretty much everyone else does, just turn off/down the stereo, and just cruise listening to the Sweet Sweet Sound of your new exhaust system And then you will know that it was all worth it

Can anybody confirm the fact that the 3rd gen models have 2.25" pipes?

TS1:

Are you 100% sure? I measured my 1998 and 1999 w/ a ruler last week and it was closer to 2.5 than 2.25. Did you try measuring yours?

Well it seems that 2.5 would be better to have than 2.25. I can measure my tailpipe to see what the factory setup is.

I stand corrected. I measured my tailpipe and it is 2.5" and the stock muffler length is 22".
