i recently replaced my weber 32/36 with the original stock carb on my 87 pickup. i started rebuilding it ten years ago and decided to just buy a weber instead. i wasn't really ever happy with the weber so i decided to rebuild the stock carb and give it a try. i've got a few issues, but i'll only bother asking one question cause the others have too many possibilities and i need to try some things first. my issue is after the truck has sat for a day or two, there is no fuel in the bowl sight glass. is that normal? while running the fuel is right in the middle where it should be and all is good. when it has sat for a while it takes longer to start, probably from no fuel in bowl. i did some research but i couldn't find anything on whether that bowl should stay full or not. if it should stay full then what would cause it to empty? thanks for any help.

 

it should stay full. usually means either the gasket between the fuel bowl and throttle plates is leaking or the valve seat for the jet inside the bowl is leaking.

Or it could be the sight glass gasket as well.

BTW it's hard to star because of no fuel in the bowl or it has basically flodded the cyls with too much fuel.

I had the same problem on my truck . I finally figured out the fuel shut off solenoid was leaking. I replaced the o ring which helped but not completely. my solenoid was working but not sealing off. I ended up putting a used one in to stop the fuel loss. That was my first thread on here , if you want a good laugh look it up.
