I've never read about anyone running Marlin Crawlers 1600lb clutch kit so I just wanted to share my experience.

I just replaced my Marlin 1200lb clutch with a 1600lb. The MC 1200 lasted me about 35-40k miles (I'm not exactly sure, trucks undergone many changes in it's lifetime). The 1200 was great and I'd reccomend it! This clutch got used, abused and driven, it's as close to stock with some extra grip you can get. Nice soft easy peasy pedal.

I put in the new 1600lb kit last weekend and it's definetly different. Takes some getting used to and i can definitevly say if you're looking for a stock feel this isnt the kit for you. It's extremely grippy (daddy likey!) but this in turn makes it easy to stall.

I've felt a centerforce, stock and a few others and gotta say Marlins 1200lb clutch adjusted properly at the pedal with a OEM Hydraulic system is your best performance/money/comfort bet.

But the 1600lb is the daddy if youre looking for massive grip action!

I've had stock Toyota clutches last over 200K miles so they can't be that bad.

 

You only got 40k out of your 1200lb clutch??? I hope you really abused it. I'm counting on mine lasting a LOT longer than that.

 

You could of ran my clutch another 40k if you wanted to but it would of driven you completely mad.

It doesnt take much to wipe out any clutch when your under-geared and rompn in swampn which is what this particular saw most of it's 40k life. Hot spots on the flywheel and pressure plate is pretty much the main cause of the final slippage towards the end. It still had some meat left but not much before you'd be hitting rivet. The clutch face was smooth, ie the wear grooves were gone.

If you're just driving on the roads and not spending 8 hours abusing the crap out of it in the mtns, it'll last a good 80k I imagine.

 

i had a MC 1800lb clutch put in my 95 when i had my engine rebuilt a few months back. ill never buy another brand of clutch again. when it grabs, you better believe it grabs. its a bit stiffer, but i like a clutch thats kinda stiff personally. if your undergeared and runnin bigfger tires like me.... 4.10s and 35s.... then get a MC clutch. i was ridin the clutch all day wheelin a few weekends back and i couldnt even smell it burnin. and it still feels brandnew

 

Good to know...that will be the next on I get.

 

For OEM trucks they're the best, but for trail abuse no so much(ask me how I know...).


I'm actually getting ready to upgrade to the 1200lb kit soon...

Glazing the mating surfaces is what really kills any clutch. But with the higher clamping force you slip less so it won't overheat as easily but if you're riding it trying to get the right wheel spin/speed try not to overheat it (when you finally do start smelling it) cuz then you're basically KO'ing the clutch's overall life.

haha yea since im 4.10s and 35s, now when wheeling im in 4LOW in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. bc of the bigger tires and higher gears= faster 4low.
