Brook is one of the best builders and drivers I've had the pleasure of meeting up here, and his trip reports are always something that could be published in a book.

Makes our desert wheelin' look mighty tame!
It's no joke; a lot of the wheeling up here multiplies the default "you could end up dead" factor by about 10...which is not to deny there's plenty of hardcore wheeling/wheelers in the other 49 states.

ahh, a new catagory of purpose built wheeler- cool!

I was stationed on Kodiak Is. back in April of 1979 to Sept of 1980, but spent the majority if my time in the Aleutian Islands (from Attu, Kiska, Adak, Cold Bay, Chignik, and almost every other small port on the chain) and down thru the inland waterways in South East Alaska (Valdez, Cordoba, Yakutat, Juneau, Ketchican, Glacier Bay, and many more I don't remember) on fisheries patrol in the USCG. I only spent a few days in Anchorage, and saw the Glaciers south of town, and a Moose wandering thru the ground at the hospital at Elmendorf Air Force Base. (I was there to have a ligament repaired in my hand- had a few days of medical leave to explore some)

Very cool. In that short time you probably saw more of this place than most residents see their whole lives. That's some hardcore boating (no matter the size of the ship) out through the chain, especially through winter. I spent a few days working around Sand Point and Unga Is. this summer til my ankle blew up getting off a boat in the middle of the night. First time I'd been to the Aleutians; hope I have reason to go out there again sometime.

man, that was better reading than most books. takes the term "badass" to a whole new level. like the icelandic captain who caught and killed the shark with his bare hands. reading that and now this makes me feel so little, and weak. like it was said, when you break your rig in the lower 48, you call AAA. when you break your rig in AK, you better hope you live to get it out.
