how easy is it to change gears by yourself?

how easy is it to change gears by yourself?

I mean, is pulling the third member all that hard?

the only thing I see that would be really difficult is the front diff

The rear diff is easy (done mine a few times). Disconnect driveshaft and brake lines, slide axles out and support (don't let them rest on the seals, you will damage them), remove 3rd. Reverse process to install.

I don't have a front one, but from what I hear they are heavy (like 80 lbs) but relativly easy.

Rear is about an hour of work. Like Todd said disconnect brake lines, remove 4 nuts at either end of the axle housing and pull brake/axle assemblies out, remove thirdmember.

The IFS front is a little more involved, but not that bad. After you get the truck on jackstands you connect your work lead to a good clean spot on the frame and then proceed to cut the diff/suspension brackets off with the plasma torch.

hahaha I know! I can't wait to chop it off! I'm in the process of finding a new diff for it though! one that fits a d44
