installed new stereo,neep help
hey guys,
im new to the forum. I just picked up a 2nd gen 4runner.all original, even the stereo. So I swapped it out for my alpine with cd player and ipod cable. When I turn it on, the radio works as it should in tuner, but when I turn to CD,music is only coming from the front speakers.=(
Anyone know whats wrong?I dont know if this happens with the ipod connected yet.thanks

Im pretty sure there is. I just live with it. I have massive bass back there and it fills in most of the rears. Ive been tolt there is an amp between the HU and the rear speakers that does strange things that no one can explain.

Just go to walmart and get the cheap stuff if your just running sraight off the head unit. As for where to run it. I would zip tie one going to the passenger side behing the dash and one going the other way. Down behind the kick panels, pull the door sills, tuck under the carpet, same with the rear doors. Should be able to push it up behind the rear side panels, they start right next to the rear seats. From there it should be easy. But your pretty much gonna have to figure out the details I cant hold your hand the whole way. How would you learn?

it is much easier to run both wires from the head unit to behind the glove box, into passenger kick panel, under the door seals and split them up under the rear seat to each rear panel, then run them under the rear panels. this is not fun but the factory amp that is inside the rear panels is a pain in the ass to get to work and all the stock wiring is really small and shaty.

I dont know what you mean? Aux power wire what is that? Going to where? What would it have to be connected to to create this symptom? I had this problem and traced my perfectly built harness with a multi meter. Every single wire I made was good. Yet still had the problem.

There are two power wires. One is blue, one is blue with a stripe. One of them is on all the time that your head unit is on, it's the aux power wire, and is meant to switch on amplifiers and such. The other is the antenna power wire, and is only on when the radio is on. Most old radios only had one aux power wire, the aux/antenna wire split is a new thing. Disconnect whatever your antenna wire is connected to, and connect it to the aux power wire, and your problem will be solved.

It will stay up all the time the radio is on, yes. Chances are that the rear amp is ALSO connected to the antenna power wire, which is why the rear speakers aren't working when not in radio mode.

Ok now that makes sense if there was ONLY a factory radio and NO tape player, but my truck is loaded, power everything, cruise, sunroof, V6, it had to have something other than a radio. Idk dude it's a weird problem.
