I had the same problem here back 2 years ago when i bought my 2nd gen my problem was the head unit, I had to buy a new one because it wouldnt turn on my sony amp and the stock amp....... But Toylocost I have power everything and I just hooked my sony and the blue (remote) wire from the harness in the 4runner to the same blue wire on the stereo.... Do the 2nd gen 4runners have power antennas? I have never had an antenna but was looking into buying one? (sorry for the thread hi-jack there)

Yeah man I got power antenna.

Rob I think you got a good point with this antenna thing. I just don't fully understand how they wired it and why. But I know it's solvable by running your own wires and bypassing factory.

the rear speakers are amplified, you will need to run new wires directly from the head unit to the rear speakers. take the time and take the rear panels off to access the speakers. as stated before the amp should be on or in the black box housing the rear speakers. you can remove the speakers from the housing and run the wire directly to it, or you can just cut the panels and throw some 6x9's back there while you have it all apart. just make sure you take a look where you can mount the speaker without hitting metal. I recently had a customer attempt to install 6x9's in the rear of his 2nd gen himself and just hacked the panels without looking. he quickly discovered that there is a lot of stuff behind those panels. 6x9 vs 4" is going to make you much happier in my opinion.

I didn't say it had to be here.

This thread ended 3 months ago. Nobody cares. Threads go off topic everyday and no lives are lost.

Calm down there skippy.

im calm, i just dont see the point in you being sarcastic. the thread is obviously not dead if people were/are posting in it as recently as the day i posted my response. i am just trying to help the original poster with his sound issues. I just dont see the point in people getting all excited just because a thread is brought up from the dead. months from now someone may search the same topic and find more useful information on the subject becuase people posted after the thread "died". on the other hand if you truly want to see some pics of my old mazda and the system i had in it i will gladly try to figure out how to post some pics. not sure if your into audio alot but i had a full walk thru cab with a wall and 2 12" kicker L7 subs right behind the seats, i was proud of the truck but with all fun toys something came up and i had to sell it. now i have my yota's to play around with.

Just most of what you said had already been gone over. And that last guy that posted said that it worked. anyways...

Pics would be cool. Not sure how much you remember about your system but its worth a try. Did you build the box? Tuned to what? Cu Ft? Port info? Amp specs? What have to done electrical wise eg batteries alts? I'm always in the mood to hear about someone else's stereo.

i think i sold it around 5 years ago and the build would date 2-3 years prior to that so i will do my best to remember, still trying to dig up some pics. I was running a dual battery setup with a battery isolator and a cadence 5 farad cap. also running a cadence z7000 class d amp wired at 1/2 ohm. rated by cadence as 1500 rms @ 1 ohm. a re-wired alternator that i think put out a whopping 95 amps vs the stock 80 amps. I had a friend build the box for me, i want to say around 2cu ft per sub in a slot port box.

My last build (everything since has been smaller stuff) was 2 15s in a 9cuft box. All 3/4'' mdf. Subs up port back, top baffle was double 3/4 and a vertical 2x4 for support. Slot port was about 120sqin. Tuned to 36hz. Rockford 500rms watt amp. In the back of my runner. It was only 500 watts but i would challenge anyone to be louder on 500 watts under $700. That thing really shook that truck apart. Ive been told that people could hear me for a solid mintue before I showed up. Finally fried one of the speakers though so now its just sitting in the garage.

Yeah it always helps to have the hookups. Sonic Electronics has been getting all my cash lately though. None of the shops will (or are able idk) to compete with their prices. Sometimes it's hit/miss with them but usually I get what I want. I'd rather buy from a shop but there are none near and I haven't been to any where they aren't douchebags. They shove their brand down your throat and tell me what I have/want is crap even when it's higher quality than they carry or even know about in some cases.

thats the problem with some private owned shops. they know where the margin is and try to make the most profit they can. it makes sense but ultimately you should give the customer what they want regardless of profit because they will most likely come back, and also tell friends to come. less money up front usually results in more later. i install alot of stuff that people get from sonic, i have even bought some stuff from them myself, cant complain really
