I am re-invigoratiing an 87 runner that has been sitting for about 3 years. I have replaced th ECU and igniter, and this puppy is running now!

I obviously have a number of items to work on. A friend mentioned that I may want to look at replacing all the bushings, as a truck sitting for that long may have cracks in the existing set.

Performance Accessories has a set to replace the bushings for ~$88. Is this something I should be looking at doing? What is the amount of time I am going to spend replacing the bushings?

First you get on your back and check them... toyotas are usually good about chassis parts lasting a long time.

 

You can if you really want to, but that is highly un-necessary.... Your friend is making stuff up, Your bushings may be worn (i.e. spongy), but sitting around for 3 years would not have hurt them...

 

If its been sitting for that long just change and or add fluids gas tune-up maybe and drive.

 

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am going to take a close look at the bushings in the suspension and body and make a better educated decision.

 

Yeah, just look at them and see if they're cracked. If they need replacing, it's because the truck's an '87 model, not because it's been sitting for 3 years.

 

Agreed. I would expect them to be in better shape sitting for 3 years than taking a beating every day for 3 years.

 

The bushings should be fine. The 4WD and front end components are really stout on these trucks. I'd check the front brake calipers to see if they sticking after sitting that long though. Then, change out all the fluids and drive it for a while and see what else crops up, if anything.
