i bought a 1990 4runner a month ago, sr5 v6, ive had so much stuff happen im close to saying screw toyotas... the first week i got it, i quickly hose off the engine. couple days later i started having trouble starting it. it would atrt and run fine for a week at a tme, then jst decide to not start.. turns over, have plenty of battery power and spark, just keeps turning over. last week, the first couple minutes of running, it would bog when ideling like (idle..bog..idle..bog..idle..bog) after a few minutes its fine. i put on a {new mass air flow sencer} and {new fuel filter on it}. tonight, pulling up to a stop lght, i heard a faint (click click click click click) that slowed down as i did. when i stopped it died. will turn over but wont start.... POS. im guessing its the fuel pump.... but would like to hear about anything else it could be?? please if anyone knows anything that could help let me know. im at my last straw here.... bout ready to sell them stupid thing.

sounds like you have a body ground coming loose.

 

Sounds like you have a loose connection.... that "click click click" may be a bad connection to the air-flow-meter. But the other symptoms point to you messing up the ... um wait... you hose down the engine and don't protect your electrical connections... what else would you expect? You other symptoms suggest you mucked up the throttle sensor while doing your cleaning.

 

uh well first of all i dont drive and live in the 1920's.... alittle water shouldnt make a difference... like i said it wasent much.. and i never got close to the fuse boxes or major connections. and i have a brand new mass air flow sencer on it.. after the water issue sooo, shouldnt have anything wrong with it.. but ya thanks.

 

X2 bro, I always have pressure washed my trucks thouroughly with my buddy's diesel heated hot water pressure washer and it has never caused problems, I don't cover anything except my air cleaner. Every once in a while the dizzy will get wet and she'll run on 3 cylinders for a few minutes, but that's it...

 

yea check your cap and rotor for water anxd your grounds.

 

First off its not called a "mass air flow sensor" Its an "Air flow meter." You said you replaced it? Did it make any difference at all? Trace wires from the Meter back for breaks and loose connections. Check for any cracks or leaks in the main intake hose. Any Codes? You sure it has "good" spark? How do you know? Check from the coil. Check Coil resistance if out of spec at all its considered bad and needs replacing. possible ignitor issue. Check wires and connectors going to and from. Could be a fuel pump they usually do have similar symptoms like this. Try replacing it. easy in the 4runner as there is an access panel under the passenger rear seat.

 

if the wired are bad (Have cracks) water will cause a misfire. Crack a can be tiny. I would change plugs and wires first.
