2002 Limited 4runner - Digital AC Display

I have been a member of the this forum for awhile now but this is my first post. I have searched for similar problems but have not found anything that seems like my issue.

Over the weekend I replaced my power antenna with the tacoma whip antenna. In order to do this I did have to remove all the center console, the glove box and a part of the dash right above the glove box on the inside of it in order to get to the original antennas cord.

Once I got everything back up and going I noticed a day or two later that the AC Display doesn't illuminate anymore. This is the display that shows outside temp, inside AC setting. fan settings, etc. Every other light on the dash works as well so this has me stumped. Has anyone heard of these digital displays going bad? Any ideas of what I could have done to make the backlight no longer work on this display? I went back and retraced all my steps and saw nothing funny looking. I also checked some fuses and didn't see any problems. You would think a fuse you would cause multiple things to misbehave and not just this panel. Is there anything in the dash above the glove box that would be related to this?

Any how, any idea would be appreciated. The Antenna however works great. Everything works fine minus the digital panel on the AC/Heat..

try knocking/tapping the front display with your finger. Same thing happened to me, because of removal and re-installation, the bulb went loose. Try to remove your dash piece and observe any changes once you wiggle a bit the bulbs.

Looks like when you removed the panels you touched the connector and lost contact.
You have 2 options:
Open the cetral console, get to the wiring and make sy=ure its good contact.
Or
Get yourself Type B New wedges (2), open the display and change the bulbs. Those bulbs are tend to be very sensitive to impacts. I had similar issue on my old vehicle and replacing the bulbs solved the problem.
Therefore I'm leaning to you having a contact issue.

I think I actually read through your post yesterday Alex. I did check all my wiring yesterday and all connections looked good. I am leaning towards trying to change the bulbs now. How hard is it take the panel apart? Looks like it could be quit involved for the digital panels. I talked to a dealer and they quoted 2.5 hours of labor for their certified techs to replace the bulbs.

Its about 30 minutes job.
I changed my bulbs to amber LED. Looks great and cost me ~$20 for bulbs with shipping.

there is a 'fake' connector on the back of the display.. i forget what it goes to but if you don't hook it back up some stuff wont work.

I replaced the bulbs over the weekend and it is working fine now. I can not believe the dealer charges $270 to do this. It must have been coincidental that I noticed the bulbs were out after I did the antenna swap.
